People in the Kashmir valley, still wearing warm clothes due to below normal temperature, will have brief respite from cold during the next two days.
However, the respite will not last long as fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is hitting the region from May 5.
A Met department spokesman said the minimum temperature dropped several degrees in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, where people are still using woolens.
During evening and morning hours, people also use ‘ Kangri’ and other electronic gadgets for heating purpose. He said weather will be mainly dry over Jammu and Kashmir during the next two days.
However, a fresh WD, originating in Arabian sea is likely to hit the region from the evening of May 5 and will remain active during the next 24 hours.
He said world famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded minus 0.4 degree Celsius, about five notches below normal minimum temperature following fresh snowfall yesterday.
There was also a notch below normal minimum temperature at Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir.
Met spokesman said Srinagar recorded 6 degreeS night temperature, four degreeS below normal.
He said because of cloudy weather and rains, the maximum temperature in Srinagar was four degrees below normal yesterday. In Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir, Kokernag and Kupwara, the minimum temperature was four to five degrees below normal.
