Spot-fixing: Salman Butt loses appeal against ban

Former Pakistan cricket captain Salman Butt has lost his appeal against a 10-year ban for spot-fixing in a test match against England.

Lawyers for Butt say the Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed his appeal to get the ban overturned.

A statement released by Farani Javid Taylor Solicitors said, “they will continue to explore other avenues to appeal Mr. Butt’s case to help him resume his professional cricket career immediately.”

Amer Rahman, who represented Butt during his appeal, said Butt is “bitterly disappointed” with the decision.

Butt and Pakistan teammates Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were convicted by an English criminal trial of arranging to bowl no-balls for betting scams during an August 2010 test at Lord’s, and were jailed for between three and seven months.
