Six Killed in Kashmir Accidents

Six people including a couple and two labourers from Bihar and Nepal were killed  and seven others injured in two separate road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir.

Four people were killed when a taxi, they were traveling in, skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in mountainous Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“A couple among four people was killed when a taxi on way from Thathri to Charala skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge at 1145 hrs this morning, police spokesman here said.

He said that police, army and locals, on receiving information, rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. The injured, identified as, Shashi Kumar, son of Jaswant Singh and Rajinder Singh, son of Bachitter Singh, were admitted to district hospital.

Identity of two of the deceased was ascertained as Jaswant Singh and his wife Bimla Devi, residents of Nai Charalla, Doda.

Earlier on Wednesday two labourers from Bihar and Nepal were killed and five other non-state subjects were injured when a vehicle hit them in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, police said.

They said a group of labourers were waiting near a flour mill at Bijbehara on Srinagar-Jammu national highway when an unknown vehicle hit them this morning.

A 24-year-old Bachu Reshidev, son of Chotha Reshidev, resident of Jhumka, Nepal and 25-year-old Mehta Paswan, son of Pahariya Paswan, resident of Bismia, resident of Bihar were killed on the spot and five others were wounded.

The injured, all outsiders, were rushed to local hospital from where one of them was referred to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in a critical condition. Meanwhile, a search operation has been launched to nab the driver who fled away after the accident.
