A senior police officer said a grenade went off accidentally inside a camp of the counter-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles (RR), wounding six troopers.
The injured personnel, the police officer said, were evacuated to hospital for treatment.
Sources say the explosion occurred while the camp was being cleaned.
Security forces have launched a massive search operation in Kupwara forests and had recovered a huge cache of arms and explosives from a militant hideout yesterday.
