Min Temp Drops Again in Kashmir After Fresh Rains

Fresh rains last night resulted in drop in the minimum temperature again in the Kashmir valley, where hailstorm has damaged fruit and other crops.

A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that light rain or thundershowers could occur at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

However, there could be dry weather during subsequent four days, he said.

He said fresh rainfall last night has resulted in drop in the temperature in the valley, including summer capital, Srinagar.

After below normal minimum temperature, Sun was again out in the morning. During the past few weeks, people in the Valley are witnessing good weather during the first half of the day and cloudy and rain in the afternoon.

Met spokesman said Srinagar recorded 9.5 degrees Celsius minimum temperature, a notch below normal after 4.7 mm rainfall. The sky would be partly cloudy during the next 24 hours, he added.

Gulmarg, a famed ski resort in north Kashmir recorded 1.6 C minimum temperature, 2.4 degrees below
normal while at Pahalgam it was 3.5 degrees 1.5 degrees below normal.

The minimum temperature remained below normal by several degrees at Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir, Kokernag and Kupwara. Hailstorm and strong winds, coupled with rains for the past about a week had damaged fruit and other crops.
