Transfers in police deferred

The state cabinet  which met here this morning failed to evolve a consensus on posting of SSP's in various districts and accordingly decided to defer the decision till the next meeting which will be held in Srinagar after the offices re open there for six months on May 6.

Sources said that serious differences arose during the meeting when the proposal sumbitted by Home department in consultation with the Police headquarters came up for the discussion. "Since there was no consensus it was decided to defer the decision till the next cabinet meeting " sources said adding that Chief Minister suggested to consult the Director General of Police again before approving the changes in the proposal. The DGP is learnt to be outside state so the issue was deffered.

The department had submitted a proposal of more than two dozen police officers who were to be transffered as at least four districts--Baramulla, Jammu, Udhampur and Kishtwar are with full time SP's. Two IPS were also to be promited to higher grade.
