The Quality Control Enforcement Wing (QCEW) of the Handicrafts department has launched a massive drive against traders selling duplicate and spurious handicrafts in the name of Kashmiri products.
Official sources said that there were reports that some traders were cheating tourists by selling them duplicate and spurious handicrafts in the name of Kashmiri crafts.
They said the QCEW teams conducted inspection of various tourist resorts at different places, including Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Nishat, Residency Road and Polo View.
During the inspection some dealers were found guilty who were fined, they said adding that an amount of Rs 13000 was realised as fine from the erring traders yesterday.
The erring dealers were warned to desist from selling fake and machine made handicrafts to the tourists in the name of Kashmiri handicrafts, they said.
They said that such inspections would continue in future also.
