PHC places lifetime ban on Musharraf for contesting elections

The Peshawar High Court has dismissed former president, General (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s appeal against the disqualification of his nomination papers from NA-32 Chitral and placed a lifetime ban on him for contesting elections.

A four member bench headed by Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan heard Musharraf’s petition against the decision of the election tribunal declaring the returning officer’s acceptance of his nomination papers as void.

During the hearing the Peshawar High Court said Musharraf could not be allowed to contest elections as he had violated the constitution twice and confined the judges in their homes along with their children.

The election tribunal on April 16 disqualified him from contesting general elections from NA-32 Chitral, the only constituency from where the returning officer had accepted his nomination papers.

The former president challenged his disqualification through his lawyer Mushammad Saad Shibli.
