Now Call Us If Harassed Outside State: Govt to Kashmiri Students

Kashmiri students, pursuing studies in other parts of the country, undergoing mental or physical harassment at educational institutions or outdoor could now dial a toll-free number for help.

Government of Jammu and Kashmir has promised to solve the problems in days.

The government decision comes after a series of harassment complaints by Kashmiri youth studying in colleges outside Jammu and Kashmir.

The authorities have also appointed a liaison officer who they say will inform the government about any such incident in future. Principal Resident Commissioner, J&K, in New Delhi will be the Liaison Officer, an official spokesman said.

“He shall co-ordinate with all the concerned agencies and departments of the concerned state governments with a view to ensuring safety and security of the students.”

A helpline 011-24611108 and 011-24611210 shall be available on 24×7 basis in the office of Liaison officer for reporting any incident of harassment to the students.

Harassment of Kashmiri students by others in colleges and universities outside “has been a cause of concern
to their parents since long, ” the Minister of State for Home Mr Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo said.

He added that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has issued specific directions to provide relief to the students and their parents after which the present mechanism was devised.
