Advising people, intending to undertake 2013 Hajj pilgrimage, not to seek any assistance from private tour operators for obtaining seat, the Jammu and Kashmir State Hajj Committee (SHC) said so far no agency has been authorised to organise the pilgrimage this year.
The committee also clarified that the government was the only agency to send the people of the state for performing Hajj.
It said that there was no other agency operating for the purpose. The committee added that any private partner who intends to provide such services shall have to follow the norms and procedures laid down by the Supreme Court of India and Central Hajj Committee (CHC).
The SHC said such agencies will be registered by the government and shall be allowed to undertake the responsibility strictly as per the directions of the government so that the past fraudulent practice adopted by private tour operators shall be stopped henceforth.
Hundreds of Kashmiri's were cheated by some private tour operators taking crores of rupees from them without taking them for the pilgrimage in the past.
