Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik may have to do without foreign visits for a year or two, with central agencies pitching for blocking of his passport to send a stern message to Kashmiri separatists.
Home ministry sources have told a national newspaper Times of India that the ministry will soon take a call on revoking Malik’s passport for having shared the dais with Hafiz Saeed during a fast in Islamabad to protest the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
According to an official, his passport is unlikely to be reissued after the validity of the current one expires on March 19.
Malik, who returned on Saturday after his controversial visit to Pakistan, was allowed to leave for Srinagar on Sunday morning without any formal “questioning” by the authorities.
Apart from his brief interaction with intelligence officials manning the immigration counter at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, he was spared a detailed explanation to the agencies during his brief stay here, on his appearance alongside Hafiz Saeed at a protest in Islamabad last month, TOI reported.
