Temperature above normal in Kashmir

Sun was playing hide and seek in the Kashmir valley though the maximum and minimum temperature remained above normal.

However, people in Ladakh region continued to shiver as the minimum remained below freezing point.

A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that the weather will be mainly dry over the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, when the sky will remain cloudy.

He said during the subsequent two days, there could be scattered rain or snow in the state. There would be generally cloudy sky tomorrow when the day and night temperatures will remain above normal.

He said Srinagar recorded 5.4 degree minimum temperature, which was two degrees above normal.

However, the sun was playing hide and seek today, when all educational institutions reopened in the valley after winter vacations.

There was slight drop in the minimum temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and health resort of Pahalgam though it was above normal.

At Gulmarg, a major attraction for tourists and skiers during winter, recorded minus 3.3 degree minimum temperature while at Pahalgam it was minus 1.4 degree against yesterdays minus 3 and 3.2 degree respectively.

There was no respite from the cold in Ladakh region which remained cut off from the rest of the state since December last year after the only highway was closed due to heavy snowfall.

At Leh the minimum temperature was minus 5.4 degree while at border town of Kargil it was minus 9.2 degree.
