Gulmarg, Pahalgam have fresh snowfall, cold in Kashmir plains

World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, health resort of Pahalgam and other heights across the Kashmir valley experienced fresh snowfall while cold wave intensified in the plains.

The night temperature has improved considerably due to cloudy weather while the maximum dropped resulted in the cold in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region.

A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon light to moderate Rain or Snow would occur at many places with heavy to very heavy snowfall at isolated places in the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

He said there would be increase in precipitation up to the evening off ending of 29th and decrease thereafter.

“It started snowing from 1100 hrs after the sky remained cloudy during the night,” a hotel owner in Gulmarg said.

Tourists, skiers and other adventure lovers were out as fresh snowfall was experienced on the slopes, already buried under more than one feet of snow.

In the upper reaches, including Kongdori, Khilanmarg and Affarwat, hightest ski point connected with cabele car, experienced moderate to heavy snowfall since early this morning.

However, the night temperature improved due to cloudy sky during the night. Against yesterdays minus 7 degree, the minimum was minus 4.6 degree, about two degree above normal.
