A number of roads to far flung and remote areas besides national highway, connecting Ladakh region with the rest of the state, were closed in view of the forecast for fresh snowfall today and tomorrow in the region. Met department in Kashmir has issued a forecast for fresh snowfall, particularly in upper reaches, today and tomorrow.
Keeping in view the forecast, the authorities have announced closure of a number of roads, particularly to far flung and remote areas, where moderate to heavy snowfall is expected. Official sources said here today that though the weather was still good to allow traffic movement, but as a precautionary measure no vehicle was allowed on these routes this morning.
This is for the second time during the past one week, traffic restrictions have been imposed in Kashmir and Ladakh region as a precautionary measure.
The roads where the restriction had been imposed included Kargil -Zanskar, Srinagar-Zojila-Kargil, Kupwara-Machil-Tangdhar, Anantnag-Sinthan-Kishtwar, Bandipora-Gurez roads and Shopian-Mughal road.
The concerned Deputy Commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police and Sub District Magistrates (SDM) along with Traffic Police were asked to take appropriate measures to ensure strict implementation of restriction to safeguard life and property of the general public.
Similar restrictions were imposed on November 17 and 18 in view of forecast for snowfall in the valley and Ladakh region.
