A senior member of Jaish-e-Mahammed militant has been shot dead by security forces in a gunbattle in north Kashmir’s Sopore area, police said on Saturday.
They said the slain rebel was a divisional commander of the Pakistan-based militant outfit.
“He was operating with the code names Shoib and Yasir… he was active in Sopore and Rafiabad for the last six years… It’s a great achievement,” the security personnel said.
Violence involving security forces and militants has declined across the region considerably but people are still killed in occasional gunbattles, attacks and explosions.
More details are awaited.
