Two mainstream leaders from Muslim-majority valley have asked New Delhi to snap ties with Israel. "We strongly condemn the renewed military attacks on Gaza. The last five days onslaught on Gaza strip has consumed over 73 lives, which include women and children. The entire world needs to rise above all political or economic considerations and condemn these military strikes on people of Gaza," said CPM state secretary MY Tarigami and Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) chairman Hakim Mohammad Yasin. Both urged the government of India to snap its military ties with Israel.
After candle vigil protest by students at Kashmir University and sit-in by the Muslim Khawateen Markaz on Sunday, lawyers hit the streets in Srinagar today to protest, what they call, "barbaric aggression and killing of innocent children" by Israel in Gaza.
The cable operators have stopped beaming popular channel Al-Jazeera. "Since morning, we are not receiving the signal for the Qatar-based channel of Al-Jazeera," said Mehraj Din, a resident of Rambagh.
However, officials refused to comment on any ban being imposed on the channel. Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik too condemned the killings in Gaza.
"The Israeli government by killing small kids, elders, women and children by bombs and missiles' is proving that it is the most ruthless and inhuman country that gives no value to human's or humanity," said Malik. He alleged the world, especially United States of America, European Union etc, by their criminal silence and patronizing Israel are directly or indirectly giving Israelis the license to kill humans in Palestine.
"Any human who looks at the photographs of the infants killed by the Israeli terrorists cannot stop his eyes shedding tears," said Malik.
