Kashmir University students protest Rahul’s visit

Kashmir university students, shouting anti-government slogans, on Friday protested against the visit of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi to the campus, witnesses said.
Inside Kashmir University auditorium, Rahul Gandhi promised an audience of more than 1400 students that he would bring India Inc to the Valley.
Sharing the stage with him was a power-packed panel of India’s top industrial and corporate leaders, including Ratan Tata and Kumarmangalam Birla.
This was Rahul’s second visit to the university since last year when he had held interactions with students, promising them that he would show up again with a business delegation.
The disbanded Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) and hard-line Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani had criticised the university authorities for allowing student political parties to emerge on the campus.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr Tata said, “It has been a real step forward to have a conversation with the great wealth of human capital that exists here. What Mr Gandhi has done is not open a window, but open a door.”
On a previous visit Rahul Gandhi had promised students that he would bring industry leaders to Jammu and Kashmir after they complained to him about lack of jobs and investments in the state.
