Panchayat member shot dead in Kashmir

Suspected militants have shot dead a panch (village council member) in Kreeri area of north Kashmir Baramulla district, the second such incident in last two weeks.

Mohammad Shafi Teli was outside his home at Nowpora, Kreeri, when suspected militants shot him in the chest at around 2015 hrs, wire agencies quoted the police as saying.
The 38-year-old panch was shifted to a sub-district hospital, but succumbed.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the killing.
