Kashmiris will judge parties on performance: Omar

Ridiculing PDP for claiming that it will form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir, the ruling NC Thursday said people will judge parties on their performance.
“From this rostrum, I challenge PDP leadership to form the next government…People will judge parties on the basis of work done and not on mere sloganeering.
“The performance report of PDP, when it was in power, is nothing but a card of failures and shortcomings on all the fronts,” NC leader and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said at a public rally in PDP stronghold of Pulwama in south Kashmir.
He said PDP’s “falsehoods were exposed” and the party has “lost its ground everywhere”. The CM said PDP was able to mislead common people in the past but its “tactics” won’t work now as public, especially youths, are aware of PDP’s wrongdoings.
He said the number of human rights violations during PDP tenure and the significant decrease achieved on this front in the last three years of NC rule makes good comparison of the seriousness of the two governments in this regard.
“They (PDP) talk of healing touch, peace with dignity but do nothing on ground…Instead they bring laws like AFSPA,” Omar said, adding that his government is continuously working for revocation of AFSPA.
“We have not only reduced the footprints of armed forces, removed bunkers but also brought in rehabilitation policy for return of Kashmiri youths from PoK,” he said.
Omar said it was his government who initiated the process of delinking political issues from economic affairs.
