A Met department spokesman said there would be more snow in upper reaches and rain in plains during the next 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir.
Woollen and other warm clothes are out again in the valley, where upper reaches had snow and rain in plains, resulting in drop in the minimum temperature.
All heights in the outskirts of Srinagar had turned white due to fresh snowfall, clearly visible from Dal Lake and Harwan. Gulmarg, a major tourist attraction throughout the year, including winter, has been receiving fresh light to heavy snowfall since last night.
Met department spokesman said about four inches of snow was experienced on the slopes at Gulmarg, where the night temperature dropped further and settled at minus 3 degree, two degree below normal.
Tree and roof tops besides electric poles had turned white as people woke up this morning, a hotel owner said.
He said the upper reaches, including Kongdori, Khilanmarg and Affarwat, the highest ski point connected by cable car, received moderate to heavy snowfall, much to the delight of tourists.
Sonamarg, a tourist resort on Srinagar-Leh national highway in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal, also recorded few inches of Snowfall.
The highway, connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of the state, is scheduled to reopen late this week after remaining closed since December.
A famed tourist resort of Pahalgam, base camp of Holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalyas, had rains. However, upper reaches, including Holy Cave and its periphery, Sheshnag, Mahagun, Pisso top and Panjterni experienced moderate to heavy snow.
Srinagar and all plains in the Kashmir valley had heavy rains, disrupting normal life. A number of roads were flooded with rain water due to faulty drainage system in the city.
Kargil, a border town on Srinagar-Leh highway, with minus 2.8 degree was colder than Leh where the minimum temperature was 2 degrees, Met spokesman said.
